Job Search Workshops & Work Experience Programs

Santa Cruz County TANF/CalWORKs recipients are eligible to participate in Job Search Workshop (JSW) and the Work Experience program (WEX). For referral to the programs contact your Santa Cruz County Employment and Training Specialist (ETS) or County of Santa Cruz Human Services Department.

The Job Search Workshop (JSW) is a full time four week workshop designed to equip individuals with competitive job search strategies. Core topics include, but not limited to, Master Application Development, Job Search Strategies, Resume Writing, Interview Techniques, and Researching and Networking with Employers. Other workshop topics include financial literacy, essential employability skills, online applications, and dress for success. The workshop satisfies CalWORKs participants Work Participation Rate (WPR) while attending. Workshop completers/graduates earn a certificate of completion and become eligible for the Work Experience program.

The Work Experience (WEX) program is an unpaid work skills program designed to provide work experience and work history to individuals seeking a new vocation or who lack formalized employment history. Individuals volunteer with local non-profit or not for profit organizations to gain work experience, technical skills, employment history and references. Work experience assignments may last up to 6 months ranging from part time to full time. The WEX satisfies CalWORKs participants Work Participation Rate (WPR) while attending.
