Administration
John T. Collins, II,
MPH,
has been Senior Vice President of Workforce Development Programs
to Goodwill Industries of Santa Cruz, Monterey and San Luis
Obispo Counties, Inc. since 1987. The programs he leads are
organized under the division know as Shoreline Workforce Development
Services, Shoreline School of Cosmetology and Shoreline Conference
Center.
A native of Santa Cruz, California, Mr. Collins earned his
Master of Public Health Degree from San Jose State University,
and his Bachelor of Science Degree in Health and Human Services
Administration from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale.
Mr. Collins has held positions in both the private and non-profit
sector. Prior to joining Goodwill, Mr. Collins provided consultant
services to companies regarding troubled employees and health
issues; Program Director for Dominican Hospital's EAP; and
Director of Human Organ Recovery at Walter Reed Army Medical
Center.
As Senior Vice President, Mr. Collins has been very active
in the support and implementation of the Americans with Disabilities
Act, The Workforce Investment Act and many Educational strategies.
As a CARF Surveyor, he ensures that organizations around the
world follow the standards for quality employment and training
programs. He serves on the Board of the Santa Cruz Chamber
of Commerce, Workforce Investment Board as well as having
served on The Monterey County Tourist and Travel Alliance
and Monterey County Hospitality Boards of Directors. He is
an elected Trustee of the Santa Cruz City Schools.

Tracy Stanley
Administrative Secretary/Intake Coordinator - Santa Cruz
Tracy Stanley has served Shoreline Occupational Services for
16 years. She manages the database of services and coordinates
monthly revenue for the training department, as well as processes
referral paperwork into the programs of Santa Cruz Office
Careers, Marina Office Careers and the Marina Culinary Arts
Program. Ms. Stanley graduated from The Bryman School in San
Jose in Medical Assisting and Front Office and has worked
as an office manager for two Doctors’ Offices -one for
8 years and one for 4 years.
She brings to Shoreline her ability to be flexible in order
to assist each client personally. Tracy Stanley says she is
fulfilled in her work by being part of a stepping stone for
clients to grow in self esteem, overcome obstacles and become
stronger by becoming part of the work force.

Instructors
Chris Allegri-
Manager- Shoreline School of Cosmetology
Ms. Allegri received her CA Cosmetology/ Esthetics License
in 1972. Since that time she has studied with a distinguished
group of professionals and has received many industry certificates
as well as diploma of Esthetics in 2003. Chris has been at
Monet Salon and Spa for over 3 years. As the lead esthetician,
Chris uses pure flower and plant based products, to affirm
the relationship between personal beauty, wellness and the
environment.
She has acted as producer for The Miss Santa Cruz Beauty Pageant
and also a consultant for the pageant for interview and stage
presentation. She also works in television commercials and
performs voice over acting.
As a licensed instructor in CA private postsecondary education,
she draws from her own experience and Ayurveda philosophy
of balance, working together to create a positive atmosphere
for the students.
Joan
Harbison
- Instructor - Office Skills and Medical Front Office
Joan Harbison has taught for Shoreline since 1997and has taught
both the Office Skills Program and the Medical Office Program
since 2003. Ms. Harbison has worked for a medical office herself
as well as a transcriber for Shoreline’s Vocational
Evaluation Program. Ms. Harbison is diligent about keeping
current on the latest technologies and developments in the
field. Joan Harbison brings more to the classroom than just
her skills as a teacher, but inspires students to build self
esteem and to “Be positive.” She loves to teach
and her favorite message to students is “Yes you can!”.

Lorrie Furtado
- Instructor - Shoreline School Of Cosmetology
Lorrie Furtado started business at the ripe age of 16 and
graduated at 18. She worked for John Robert Powers, then went
into business leasing a few years later. She was Hairdresser
of the Year for Bac Stat Systems in 1981. Also in 1981 she
was a member of Hair Color Council of California. Lorrie did
platform work with Maree Andre and for Bac Stat Systems, which
is when she met Jesse Sanchez, now her Manager at the school.
Lorrie is a mom to a 20-year old son, who also shares her
interest in vintage cars and trucks.
Ursula Malynn
Instructor Shoreline School of Cosmetology
-Esthetician Program.
Ursula Malynn has taught cosmetology for 20 years, receiving
her license in 1964 and her teaching
credential in 1980. She has worked as an instructor at Wayne’s
College and Gavilan College.
In her part-time teaching position with Shoreline she instructs
in all aspects of skin-care, monitoring students and providing
valuable instruction during their practical applications.
Ursula enjoys teaching and also teaches adults in other classes
in needlecraft and knitting. She enjoys interacting with people
in an academic setting.
Thomas Moreno
Instructor -Sho reline
School of Cosmetology
Thomas Moreno brings 30 years of experience to his teaching
position at Shoreline. He has operated a Salon (Shear Energy)
and it was twice voted “Best Salon” in Santa Cruz.
Mr. Moreno has conducted in-salon, advanced haircutting classes
and worked as a style director.
His teaching approach includes Vidal Sassoon techniques and
he is also trained in color-cutting techniques from the Scott
Cole Academy, a new and exciting method of hair lightening.
Mr. Moreno enjoys mentoring and encourages students to continue
their education beyond beauty school.
Beverely Nigro
Instructor - Shoreline School Of Cosmetology
Beverly Nigro teaches high school students in the cosmetology
program at Shoreline. She has also been working closely with
advanced students on the clinic floor and helping prepare
some of them for their “baby boards”, so they’ll
be better prepared when they take their State Board Exam.
Beverly studied cosmetology in Illinois and has had her license
from that state since 1970. She practiced there in several
salons and also had a salon set up in her home. She worked
in rural areas as well as large cities. She has a lot of experience
giving children’s haircuts and working with college
students.
Beverly’s Illinois license was reinstated when she moved
to California. She began her additional 200 hours at Shoreline
School of Cosmetology and has earned her California Cosmetology
license. She has also been working towards becoming an ROP
vocational teacher. It is worth noting that Beverly Nigro
is an experienced marathon runner and has completed 19 marathons.
Jesse Sanchez -
Interim Manager-Shoreline School of Cosmetology
Not only does Mr. Sanchez manage the Shoreline School of Cosmetology;
he is also the Floor Instructor, overseeing all the advanced
students who provide haircutting and beauty services. Although
Jesse Sanchez has only worked for Shoreline since 2004, he
brings 40 years of cosmetology experience to his students.
Jesse Sanchez has worked for Miramax films for 10 years as
a hair consultant and for Redkin’s Dept. of Education
division for 7 years, specializing in cosmetology chemistry.
He has also taught advanced techniques for Bac-Stat Systems
for many years and Gavilan College for 8 years teaching advanced
cosmetology. He is principal of his own personal consulting
company “Resources for Success”, advising Salons
and Cosmetologists in business and marketing. Mr. Sanchez
is also one of only two Tricologists in the United States,
qualified to medically treat patients with hair and scalp
disorders.

Bill Taylor 
Culinary Program- Marina Campus
Chef Bill Taylor has taught the Culinary Program at Shoreline
for 5 years. He brings to this position over 35 years of food
service experience. Bill Taylor has a wide range of experience
in many and varied culinary styles. Not only has Mr. Taylor
managed and owned his own restaurant for 8 years, but he also
tested recipes in cookbooks for a major well known publishing
company. He is a published author himself, creating “The
Balanced Diet Cookbook” and 3 others. Chef Bill Taylor
gains much satisfaction in his work seeing students with a
passion for cooking, succeed in the business after graduation.

Suzanne Cook-Turner 
Office Careers/Bookeeping/ Medical Office/ Hospitality-
Marina Campus
Ms. Cook-Turner teaches Computer Applications, Medical Office,
Accounting and Hospitality Office classes for the Shoreline
Program and has done so for 3 years. She has been involved
in vocational education for the past 10 years and holds a
degree in business. She has taught at Merced College in the
Microcomputers Business program for 7 years.
Ms. Cook-Turner’s philosophy is to create a positive
learning environment for a diverse community of learners in
which each student's heightened self-esteem leads to higher
achievement. She enjoys serving students with barriers and
helping them acquire technical skills to get a job while developing
their essential employability skills. Nothing is more rewarding
to her than seeing the students complete training and become
employed in their fields.

Counselors
Jennifer Balducci
Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist – Monterey County
Jennifer Balducci currently provides counseling and supportive
services for injured workers under the California Worker’s
Compensation System. Specifically, she assists the Senior
Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor in the development and
case management of Individually Written Rehabilitation Plans
(IWRP).
Ms. Balducci promotes and develops job openings and placements
for qualified applicants. She also completes local labor market
studies, identifying potential employment opportunities within
Monterey County. Ms. Balducci, in addition to her primary
duties, provides administrative and technical support to the
department.
Ms. Balducci holds an Associates of Arts Degree from Hartnell
College in Salinas, CA. She has also continued her education
by participating in selected workshops related to her current
position with Shoreline Occupational Services. Ms. Balducci
brings a practical perspective to the counseling department,
having lived and worked in the Monterey County area for over
25 years. She has been praised for her attention to detail
and compassionate style when working with the injured worker.

Susan Boes
Workshop Employment Specialist/Capitola OneStop
Susan Boes is the workshop employment specialist at the Capitola
OneStop. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Peace
Studies from Antioch College in Ohio. A certified mediator,
Ms. Boes has 15 years experience in public relations and community
outreach as well as over five years of training experience
including teaching a comedy improvisation workshop. She has
outstanding communication and interpersonal skills as well
as a great sense of humor. A strong motivator, Ms. Boes believes
in the importance of training being interactive and participatory.
Program participants describe her as compassionate, funny,
caring and a great teacher and listener.

Suzanne Chonette
Workshop Employment Specialist, Watsonville
Suzanne Chonette is a credentialed Adult Educator with a background
in healthcare and gerontology. She has taught a variety of
classes and workshops through Watsonville/Aptos Adult Education
and the American Red Cross. She also teaches art and music
classes to elementary school age children through the Santa
Cruz Cultural Council's SPECTRA Program.
Suzanne is a very innovative thinker who prides herself on
creative solutions and thinking outside the box. She is interested
in being a catalyst for change and helping students remember
how to dream. Students are encouraged to redefine themselves
and establish greater goals in their personal and professional
lives. Her focus on the positive aspects and hidden talents
of her participants often re-energizes and inspires them to
seek further training and educational goals.
Suzanne's students emerge from the program with stronger self
image, a complete and polished resume, interviewing practice
and confidence, a neat and complete appliction and the computer
skills needed to conduct an online job search. In addition,
they've made friends, established a network of future contacts
and learned how to ask questions, advocate for themselves
and look at the future with a sense of personal responsibility.

Sara Jamison 
-Employment Services Manager for Work Experience Program,
Vocational Evaluation Department and Office Careers and Retail
Skills Training programs.
Sara Jamison has been a part of Shoreline’s Team since
2000. She works directly with participants and her staff to
administer academic, aptitude, psychometric and functional
capacity assessments. She works with participants to provide
information and support to assist participants and counselors
to make informed decisions about vocational directions, goals
and potential for employment. Ms. Jamison guides them in identifying
their vocational interests, goals, training, and needs and
accommodations for returning to work. Ms. Jamison also supervises
the Work Experience Program (WEX) for CalWORKS participants.
This program assists participants in work experience activities
within the community to develop work skills, technical skills,
and references with the goal of achieving unsubsidized employment.
Previously Ms. Jamison worked as a job developer for a private
Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor with an emphasis assisting
injured workers with vocational rehabilitation services. Ms.
Jamison also supervises the Retail Occupations Training Program
and Santa Cruz Office Careers Training Program and provides
support to those students. She has also written and updates
the Accessibility Plan for Goodwill Industries. Ms. Jamison
is a graduate of UCSC with a B.A. in Sociology. Her continuing
education includes coursework through UCSC and George Washington
University. She also has held membership with VECAP, Vocational
Evaluation and Career Assessment Professionals since 2002.

Bernardine
Johnson
Evaluation Technician for Career Assessment Workshop
– Santa Cruz
Ms. Johnson joined Shoreline in December 2007; she facilitates
Career Assessment Workshops for Shoreline. As a former participant
in Cal-works and the Career Assessment Workshop, Ms. Johnson
is excited to use her experience and understanding to connect
with Career Assessment participants, and to help guide them
toward fulfilling and realistic career goals. Ms. Johnson
had most recently been employed by the Catholic Diocese of
Monterey as an Administrative Assistant and Bulletin Editor.
Ms. Johnson found her work for the Diocese very fulfilling
as it involved outreach and involvement in our local community,
through assisting those in need by providing them with food
or emergency financial aid, as well as leading Communion Services
in the absence of a priest. Ms. Johnson has also previously
worked for the non-profit organization Whitney Associates
in Portland, Oregon, which managed fundraising campaigns for
the Simon Wiesenthal Center and the Natural Resources Defense
Council. Ms Johnson holds a BA in English Literature from
the University of Portland, with a minor in World History.

Sharon Jones-Tomaro
WEX Counselor- Santa Cruz Office
Ms. Tomaro has worked for Shoreline since 1998. She is a graduate
of California State University, Chico, where she earned a
Bachelor’s of Science Degree. Ms. Tomaro worked in retail
management for 7 yrs and then came to Shoreline as an Instructor
for The Retail Occupations Program. Ms. Tomaro has been on
the Work Experience team since 2006. Her current role as an
Employment Services Specialist for the Work Experience Program
allows her to continue to use her years of experience preparing
people for employment. She brings the gifts of patience and
flexibility that she used in her previous Shoreline position
to work with a different set of participants in the WEX program.
Ms. Tomaro works in North Santa Cruz County and enjoys working
with her participants to assist them in finding volunteer
sites in the community that will help them build their resume
and find a job that they truly love.

Charlie Miksicek
Charlie Miksicek has been assisting with the Capitola Job
Search Workshop since April 2005. He also works as an Employment
Program Representative with the State of California's Employment
Development Department. Prior to that he worked as an Employment
Training Specialist with Santa Cruz County's Careerworks program.
Charlie got his bachelor's degree in Biology and Anthropology
from Washington University in St. Louis, MO. He did graduate
work in an interdisciplinary program in anthropology, Biology,
Geology and Geography at the University of Arizona in Tucson.
Before becoming a vocational counselor, Charlie worked as
an archaeologist for many years. Now instead of digging for
artifacts, he is digging for jobs.

Wil Moore 
Manager, Counseling and
Placement- Monterey County
Wil Moore currently supervises the On-The-Job Training, Placement,
and the Counseling/Case Management Programs in Monterey County.
In addition to supervising these programs, Mr. Moore provides
case management and return to work services for worker's who
have been injured and qualify for services under the California
Worker's Compensation System or Federal Employees Compensation
Act . He also serves as the division liaison with the Social
Security Administration's designated contractor (Maximus Corp)
to provide vocational and job placement assistance to people
with disabilities under the newly organized Employment Network
system.
Mr. Moore holds a Bachelor's Degree from Point Loma Nazarene
University and a Master's Degree in Special Education (Vocational
Rehabilitation) from San Jose State University. He has been
with Shoreline Occupational Services for 12 years and has
been in the field of vocational rehabilitation for 18 years.
In the past, he has completed case management contracts with
the Veteran's Administration and worked on selected pilot
projects to include co-developing a return to work program
for a local substance abuse recovery center.
As the Past President of the private counselor division of
the National Rehabilitation Association, and an active member
within the re-employment field, Mr. Moore brings a depth of
knowledge of placement and training systems, which he utilizes
to provide customized services that best fit the needs of
the Monterey County community.

Casey Powers
Employment Services Specialist- Santa Cruz
Casy Powers joined Shoreline in 2007 shortly after graduation
from Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois where she majored
in Integrated International Studies and minored in Spanish
and Social Services. As part of her degree she studied abroad
in Argentina, became proficient in Spanish and completed a
6 month internship with the Knox County Child Advocacy Center.
Through that internship, Mrs. Powers felt called to work in
Social Services working with the socially disadvantaged and
those who are unable to change their social situations on
their own. Mrs. Powers is working in South Santa Cruz County
with the Work Experience program. Through that program she
gets to work daily with clients to help them gain the work
experience they need to start a new career and get back into
the workforce. Mrs. Powers enjoys the challenges of working
with a diverse population and the daily contact with clients,
employers, worksites, and referring agents.

Carlos Perales
Employment Services Specialist for the Work Experience Program
(WEX) -Monterey County
Mr. Perales assess participants in a work experience program
to identify strengths, skills, and employment barriers, and
train the participants in basic work practices and work search
skills to lead the participant to a successful placement in
a substantial work situation. Prior to joining Shoreline in
2008, Mr. Perales worked for the Monterey County Department
of Social and Employment Services at the One Stop Career Center
in Salinas. He holds an Associates of Arts Degree from Hartnell
College and a Bachelor’s Degree in Theology from California
Christian University. He is also continuing his education
by obtaining a second Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish from
California Sate University of Monterey Bay. Mr. Perale' experience
in customer service and knowledge of the resources will be
put to good use to work with individuals who are in the Work
Experience Program (WEX).
Elizabeth Repp 
Team Leader/Coordinator - San Luis Obispo
Elizabeth Repp facilitates and coordinates the vocational
services team, along with overseeing training programs and
job placement. She also provides Career Assessment services
and assist with our Situational Assessments.
